Alexander Garrett and family came to Rockford Township from Ottaway County, Kansas in March 1869 and homesteaded on 160 acres of land on Spring Creek. They lived in a dugout on the creek until their house was built. His family later purchased more land that stretched from 95th St to Market St along Woodlawn. Garrett Park is located on their land.

Wearing a dark dress with light-colored pleated collar and light-colored cuffs. A brooch is pinned to a dark tie, the ends of which are decorated with maple leaves, three on each end. The woman’s cheeks are tinted pink. The tintype is in a gutta percha type case lined with red velvet, mounted behind glass with a gold oval matte. Photo is circa 1863.
