The Bloomenshine family were neighbors to the Cherry family. The lady at the far right was Nellie Pearl (Cobb) Bloomenshine, wife of C. H. Bloomenshine, and was the Mulvane High School librarian.

The Cherry family home burnt down around 1928 due to a fire starting in the coal furnace in the basement. The farm is located at 95th and Woodlawn.

A glimpse inside the Derby school on Feb. 24, 1899. The teacher was J. W. Swaney. If you look close at the chalkboard, the class was learning about the sense of smell.

This school building was destroyed in in 1903 by a tornado.
